WPC Pastor's Warm Up, May 12, 2008

What is the single boldest thing you and I could do for Jesus Christ? Maybe it would be to stand up in the middle of the office and in a loud impassioned voice proclaim our faith in Him. Maybe it would be to sell all our earthly possessions, give the money to the poor, and then go be a missionary to the remotest place we can find on the planet. Read Acts 4:13–31 with me. Peter and John stand up in front of very intimidating and powerful people and bear witness to Jesus' resurrection. But I don't think this is the boldest act in this passage. It comes at the end. It's this: to pray for boldness. Let's all memorize 4:29, “… grant to your servants to speak your word with all boldness.” Look what happens when this prayer gets prayed in v. 31, “the place in which they were gathered together was shaken; and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God with boldness.” When we try to be bold for Him in our own strength we run out pretty quickly. The boldest thing we can possibly do is submit ourselves to the power of God. Then look out world.

In His strength.
