Questions for Reflection - "The Power of Loving Touch"

Exodus 19:9b–15; Luke 8:40–56

  1. How do you shake hands? What do you try to convey about yourself when you shake hands?
  2. What does "touch" do? How and why do we attach meaning to "touch"?
  3. How do we as a culture become de-sensitized to "touch"?
  4. Read the Exodus passage. What is the significance of "touch"?
  5. Read the passage in Luke. What kinds of "touch" do you see? Pastor Thompson uses the term "bumping". What do you think he means by that?
  6. Unpack this woman's situation. Do you know people like her? Who are the "untouchables" today?
  7. Using her as an example, talk about why it's important to share with each other in Christian community about how God has helped and healed us.
  8. Why does Jesus explain how she has been made well?
  9. How is Jesus' explanation demonstrated at Jairus' home?
  10. Two final questions: Who needs a loving touch today? And, are your hands available?
