I’ve recently discovered a renewed appreciation for the book of Psalms. There’s something reassuring about ancient poets and song writers painting pictures in a way that captures a lot of what I’ve felt over the last couple of years.
Many of the psalms are written from a place of complete desperation, penned by a person wallowing in the depths of a pit or frozen by anxiety. We’re often taught to turn to God at all times, to wake each morning with words of gratitude, and to go to bed thankful for all that’s been provided. Yet, some days are harder than others. Sometimes, the junk of the world is overwhelming. Sometimes, we want to flee or hide. Sometimes, we can’t help but cry. The psalms remind us to be honest with God in those moments too.
Advent is a season of waiting. It’s also a season to remember God is faithful, even if God doesn’t deliver in the way we’d expect or follow the timeline we’ve created. As you continue throughout your day and prepare for church tomorrow, I’d invite you to reflect on places or times where have you seen evidence of God’s faithfulness, either in Scripture or your own life.
