For to us, a child is born, to us, a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Have you ever been in a quandary, wondering what God wants you to do? Perhaps you are doubtful about God’s ability to open a door you want to go through. Several years ago, I was finishing my studies for an M.Div. when a couple of professors suggested that I continue my education by getting a Ph.D. I responded that I wasn’t sure, as I had prayed my way through studying Greek!
Still, the seed had been planted. I decided to go ahead and try to get the Ph.D. After taking the GRE and applying to schools, I was accepted at both Catholic and Notre Dame Universities.
My husband and I prayed about what to do. By then we had three kids and he had a good job here. Moving meant relocating the family and putting his career here on hold. We felt that we had enough savings to live in the central Midwest for at least a year, but probably not in the Washington D.C. area.
So I accepted the slot at Notre Dame and began thinking about renting our place here. Still, I wondered if this was really what God wanted for us. It seemly like He was silent and leaving us to figure things out.
Then, just three weeks later, the law school dean contacted my husband and offered him a one-year visiting position! God had worked His miracle in bringing this job and giving us peace about where we should be going. It is wonderful to recall how He moved a mountain and will still move mountains as we are faithful in following Him.
