Organist/Pianist (Part Time)

Position Overview
Westminster Presbyterian Church in Westlake Village, California seeks a skilled musician to play the organ and piano for our in-person and live-streaming congregation. The position is for our Sunday morning worship service, along with choir rehearsal on a weekday night, and other services around Christmas, Easter, and special musical concerts. WPC combines the traditional and contemporary which creates an atmosphere for worship using a variety of musical styles, using the organ and piano, along with drums and guitars to draw the congregation into God's presence. As a member of church staff, the organist must demonstrate the ability to work flexibly and ni a cooperative manner dedicated to the broader mission and vision of WPC. The position is available in June.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Play the organ, piano, and keyboard for preludes, postludes, congregational hymns, choir pieces, offertories,
and other related service music on Sunday mornings.
• Weekly choir practice (typically Thursday evenings) involves collaborating with the Director ni planning and
conducting choir rehearsals.
• Sunday mornings are usually a combination of solo warmup, rehearsal with the Praise Band (as needed), and
rehearsal with the Chancel Choir, ni preparation for one worship service, currently at 10am.
• Special services include the Christmas season, Holy Week, musical concerts and related rehearsals.
• Opportunities exist for weddings and memorial services, fees of which are typically paid directly by the family.
• Coordinate maintenance of organ/piano to ensure each is in proper working order and tuned 2 times per year.
• Opportunities to support youth choirs, bell choir, and special events that expand our music program.
• Practice time is included within your normal weekly hours which will be compensated at a rate commensurate with your experience.
Skills and Competencies
• Bachelor of Music required
• Knowledge of sacred music
• Flexibility with musical selections and directions
• Strong sightreading skills
• Work collaboratively with the Director of Music Ministries (direct report), Pastors, and choir &band members
• Ahigh level of musicianship and competency ni organ and piano; familiarity with keyboards and contemporary stylings a plus; experience leading vocal and instrumental ensembles also a plus
• Desire to serve God and the church through music.

Compensation
This position is a part-time, non-exempt hourly position. Competitive hourly rate will be commensurate with experience and responsibilities assigned, as well as the number of agreed-upon hours per week.
